Latest FDA PMTA decisions and what they mean for vapers. Which brands are approved and which face potential enforcement.

Current PMTA Landscape

The FDA continues to review Premarket Tobacco Product Applications (PMTAs) for e-cigarettes and vaping products. As of mid-2025, several major brands have received marketing authorization while others remain in regulatory limbo.

Approved Products

NJOY and Vuse Alto have received FDA marketing authorization for select products. Several closed-pod systems have also been approved, primarily tobacco and menthol flavored options.

What This Means for Consumers

Products without PMTA authorization may face enforcement actions, but the FDA has prioritized enforcement against products marketed to minors. Adult vapers should be aware that product availability may shift as enforcement continues.

Industry Response

Major manufacturers continue to invest in the PMTA process. The vaping industry association estimates over $1 billion has been spent on applications collectively.
