UK Government Considers Vape Tax in Spring Budget
The UK Treasury is reportedly considering a new vape tax as part of the upcoming Spring Budget. The proposed tax would apply a 2 per 10ml levy on e-liquids, generating an estimated 40 million in annual revenue.
Industry Response
The UK Vaping Industry Association has expressed concerns that the tax could push vapers back to combustible cigarettes. Health organizations are divided on the proposal.
A similar tax in Italy resulted in a 34% decrease in vape sales but a corresponding increase in cigarette purchases.
